Add one line of code to your website, and Kenso tells you when people you emailed come back and which pages they read. Each visit shows on the person's account, raises the account's score, and can start a follow-up. Set it up in Settings › Website tracking: press G then , to open Settings, then click Website tracking under Channels. Only admins can change these settings.
How Kenso knows who visited
Kenso names a person only after they identify themselves:
- A click on a tracked link in your Kenso emails that points to your site. Kenso adds a token to the link, so that visit and the person's later visits are theirs.
- A form or a booking on your site.
Everyone else stays anonymous. A visit counts only when a person reads the page: the tab is visible for 10 seconds, or for 3 seconds with a scroll, mouse movement, click, tap or key press. A visit in the first 60 seconds after the email went out is treated as a security scanner following the link, not a person.
Install the snippet
- Open Settings › Website tracking. If you see Get snippet, click it.
- Under Domains, click Add domain, type your domain, such as
acme.com, and press ↵. The script runs only on these domains and their subdomains, soacme.comcoverswww.acme.comandblog.acme.com. Add up to 10. - Under Snippet, click Copy. The snippet looks like
<script async src="https://k.getken.dev/_k/your-site-key.js"></script>. - Paste it before
</head>on every page, or into your site builder's custom head code. It loads in the background, so your pages don't wait for it. - Open a page of your site. The status under the snippet changes from Not installed to Receiving after the first visit, with the time of the last event.
If your site sets a Content Security Policy, allow https://k.getken.dev in script-src and connect-src. The status goes back to Not installed after 7 days with no events.
Tag the pages that show intent
A tagged page says the most about buying intent. Start with pricing, demo and case studies.
- Under Tagged pages, click Add page.
- Type a Pattern: an exact path such as
/pricing, or a prefix ending in*such as/blog/*. - Type a Label, such as Pricing.
- Set Points from 0 to 50. New pages start at 25.
- Click Save page, or press ↵.
Change a page's points in its row, and remove it with the X. A site holds up to 50 tagged pages.
Under Any other page, Default points is what a known person's visit to a page you didn't tag is worth. It starts at 10.
How a visit raises the score
When a visit is tied to an account, it becomes a signal on that account and its points add to the account's score:
- A tagged page gives its own points.
- An untagged page gives the default points, but only when Kenso knows the person.
- An anonymous visitor on an untagged page gives nothing.
Each account gets one signal per page per day, so ten visits to the pricing page in one day count once. If the account is a top-priority account, its owner can get the New signal on a top-priority account notification, if they keep it on in Settings › Notifications. To see how scores fade and how tiers work, read How signals and tiers work.
Start a follow-up when someone visits
In Workflows, the Website visit trigger starts a run when a known person views your site. By default it fires on tagged pages only. You can make it fire on any page, wait for repeat visits (1 to 50 visits within 1 to 30 days), and run at most once per account in a set number of days. A run can, for example, post to Slack or add the person to a campaign. See Automate your outbound with workflows.
Consent and privacy
Under Consent, pick who waits for consent:
- EU, EEA and UK wait for consent (the default). Visitors there get no cookie and no identity before they consent. Everyone else is counted from their first page.
- Everyone waits for consent. No cookie and no identity for anyone until they consent.
A visitor whose country is unknown waits too. Before consent, a visit still counts for the company, with no cookie and no person.
Match companies before consent (on by default) lets Kenso match a visit to a company before consent outside the EU, EEA and UK, with no cookie and no person. It has no effect with Everyone waits for consent.
Pass consent from your consent tool
The script doesn't remember consent. Your consent tool tells it on every page, in one of three ways:
- Call
ken('consent', true)when the visitor accepts, andken('consent', false)when they refuse. To call it before the snippet loads, add this line first:window.ken = window.ken || function(){(ken.q=ken.q||[]).push(arguments)}. - Use an IAB TCF consent banner. The script reads purpose 1 consent from it.
- Add
data-consent="granted"to the script tag, if you only load the snippet after consent.
After consent the script sets three first-party cookies, _ken_id, _ken_vid and _ken_src, for 365 days. A refusal deletes them. The link token leaves the address bar on load either way.
If your site learns a visitor's email in another way, such as a chat widget, call ken('identify', '[email protected]') after consent. Kenso names the visitor only if that person is already in your workspace. It never creates a person.
Name the companies behind anonymous visits
To match anonymous visits to companies, connect a visitor-ID provider under All integrations: rb2b, Vector, Snitcher or Warmly. Its card gives you a URL to paste into the provider.
Rotate the keys
If your snippet was copied somewhere it shouldn't be, rotate the keys:
- Under Keys, click Rotate keys, then click Rotate keys again.
- Click Rotate to confirm.
- Copy the new snippet and paste it on your site.
The old snippet stops working right away, and links in emails you already sent stop identifying people. Kenso confirms with "New keys. Paste the new snippet on your site."
If something goes wrong
- The status stays Not installed. Check that the snippet is in the page's head, that the page's domain is under Allowed domains, and that your Content Security Policy allows
https://k.getken.dev. Then open a page and wait a moment. - Visits show, but no person. The visitor hasn't clicked a tracked link in a Kenso email, filled a form or booked, or they're in a consent country and haven't consented.
- I clicked my own email to test and nothing showed. A visit in the first 60 seconds after the email was sent counts as a security scanner. Wait a minute and click again.
- "Enter a domain, like acme.com" Type the bare domain, with no
https://or path. - "A site has at most 10 domains" Remove a domain first. Subdomains are already covered by their main domain.
- "A pattern starts with /, like /pricing" or "Use * only at the end, like /blog/*" Fix the pattern and save again.
- "That pattern is already tagged" Change the existing page's points instead.
- "Points are 0 to 50" Use a whole number from 0 to 50.
- "Only admins can change these settings." Ask an admin.
