An opportunity is a deal on an account: a name, a stage, an amount, a close date, an owner and the people involved. Open Accounts with G then A and click the Opportunities tab at the top. You set up stages, currency and Ken's automatic moves in Settings › Pipeline.

How deals get created

Ken opens deals for you from replies and meetings. You choose when in Settings › Pipeline under Create an opportunity when:

OptionWhat happens
A meeting is bookedThe default. The deal starts at Meeting booked, with the person who booked as the primary person.
A lead is interestedKen also opens a deal at Interested when a reply is marked interested, and moves it to Meeting booked when they book.
NeverDeals come only from people, your CRM, the API or a workflow.

Ken credits each deal to the campaign and step that got the reply. If the account already has an open deal, Ken moves that one forward instead of opening a second. If the person has no account yet, Ken creates one. Ken opens no deal for a reply from a personal address like Gmail, or from a recruiting campaign.

Create a deal yourself

  1. On Opportunities, click New opportunity or press C. On an account's page, click New opportunity in its Opportunities section.
  2. Type a Name, such as "Acme - annual plan", and pick the Account.
  3. Pick a Stage (open stages only) and an Owner (you, by default).
  4. Add an Amount, a Close date and a Primary person from the account's people if you know them.
  5. Click Create. The deal opens.

Move a deal

  1. Click the stage pill on a deal, or drag its card to another column on the board.
  2. Pick a stage under Move to.
  3. Kenso shows the move with Undo for about 5 seconds before it saves.

Mark a deal won or lost

  1. Click Won or Lost next to the stage, pick it from the stage menu, or drag the card to that column.
  2. For a win: if the deal has no amount, type it under Amount. Add Why they bought if you like. Click Mark as won.
  3. For a loss: pick a reason (Budget, Timing, Went with a competitor, No decision, Not a fit or Other), add a Note if you like, and click Mark as lost.

What closing a deal changes:

  • Won marks the account a customer, and Kenso stops outreach to its domains.
  • Lost: when every deal on an account is lost, Ken moves the account to the Lost stage, and back to Engaged if it gets an open deal again. Not a fit accounts stay put.
  • A closed deal shows Reopen, which moves it back to your last open stage.

What Ken moves on its own

The switch Ken moves deals between stages in Settings › Pipeline turns all of this on or off. It is on by default.

  • Replies and meetings move deals forward through Interested, Meeting booked and Meeting held. Ken never moves a deal backward, and never out of Won or Lost.
  • Each stage has its own switch. Ken moves deals only into stages whose switch is on. By default that is Interested, Meeting booked and Meeting held.
  • Descriptions tell Ken when. Turn on another stage's switch, like Proposal, and describe a deal that belongs there. Ken reads new replies, meeting notes and calls and moves a deal when it matches. Won and Lost need a description first.
  • Your call wins. Once you set a deal's stage yourself, Ken's description-based moves leave that deal alone.

With the main switch off, Ken still creates deals and leaves them where they start.

Read the pipeline

  • Views. Open, Closing soon (open deals with a close date in the next 30 days) and Won. Press 1, 2 or 3.
  • Totals. Open deals, their total, and the weighted total (each amount times its win probability).
  • Table or board. Press V. On the board, Card fields picks what each card shows.
  • Filter. Press F to filter by Stage, Owner, Close date or Source campaign.
  • Quiet deals. An open deal whose account has had no reply, held meeting or connected call for 14 days gets a badge like "Quiet 20d" and shows in Today under Went quiet. Draft a nudge there asks Ken for an email you approve before it sends.

Inside a deal

Click a deal to open it on the side. Click Open full page to give it its own page.

  • Details save when you leave a field. Changing Account moves the deal. A Probability you type overrides the stage's; Use the stage's goes back.
  • Fill from context: Ken writes the summary and next step from the account's replies, meetings, calls and research. Anything a person wrote stays.
  • People: add people from your workspace, set roles and pick the primary contact.
  • History: how the deal was created and its latest stage move.
  • Delete removes the deal and its history, with no undo. The account and its people stay.

Set up the pipeline

Open Settings with G then , and click Pipeline. Every change saves at once. You need the workspace settings permission (Admins and Editors have it).

  • Stages. You start with Interested, Meeting booked, Meeting held, Qualified, Proposal, Won and Lost. Click Add stage, click a name to rename it, drag rows to reorder, and set each stage's color and category (Open, Won or Lost). Names are unique, up to 60 characters.
  • Limits. At most 20 stages, archived ones included. Interested, Meeting booked, Meeting held, Won and Lost are system stages, and a stage with deals in it is locked too: neither can be archived or change category. Restore brings an archived stage back.
  • Win probability. Defaults: Interested 10%, Meeting booked 20%, Meeting held 30%, Qualified 40%, Proposal 60%, Won 100%, Lost 0%. A stage you add starts at 5%. Type a whole percent to change one.
  • Description. Up to 1,000 characters. Click Add a description (the page icon) on a row.
  • Deals that go quiet. Set Deal goes quiet after from 7 to 60 days. Ken flags the deal; it never sends a nudge on its own.
  • Currency. One per workspace, USD by default. If deals already have amounts, Kenso asks what to do with them: Keep the numbers, Convert at today's rate or Clear amounts.

What Ken can do here

Press ⌘J and ask, for example, "Which accounts with open deals have gone quiet?" Ken can list and read your deals, create a deal, change its stage, amount or owner, fill its details from context, add people to it, and change your stages and pipeline settings.

If something goes wrong

  • "Couldn't load opportunities right now." Click Retry.
  • "Type the amount as a number." or "Type a whole percent from 0 to 100." Use digits only, no decimals for percents.
  • Archive or category is grayed out. Hover it to see why, such as "3 deals use this stage". Move those deals first.
  • "Nothing to fill from yet: no replies, meetings, calls or research on this account." Try again after the first reply or meeting.
  • Ken didn't open a deal for a reply. Check Create an opportunity when. With A meeting is booked, an interested reply alone opens nothing. Replies from personal email addresses and recruiting campaigns never open deals.
  • Ken moved a deal you didn't expect. Check which stages have their switch on and read their descriptions, or turn off Ken moves deals between stages.
  • "Kenso syncs deal amounts to your CRM, so only Keep the numbers is available." Turn off the amount mapping or deal sync in your CRM settings first.
